DAY 5 – HIKING WEEK – CALDEIRÃO VERDE

Our day 5 of our EPIC Hiking Week was spent on the Caldeirão Verde route. It’s one of our ‘out-and-back’ hikes with around 13 km of extension with a moderate level of difficulty.

This Levada built in the 18th century is still carrying the water from the highest mountains to the farmlands below.

This hike has an impressive amount of endemic species (even the rarest of them can be seen here).

Along the way, there are several tunnels, so a flashlight is necessary. But the most impressive thing you’ll see besides the landscape is undoubtedly the huge waterfall.

We can also adjust the route for expert hikers, going all the way do Caldeirão do Inferno and finishing at Fajã da Nogueira Hydro power-plant.
