FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Hi EPIC Madeira, I was looking at your website to make a booking and try out some of those EPIC canyoning tours I’ve heard so much about.
But first, I’ve got some questions for you!
Well, hello there, EPIC adventurer. Bring them on 😎
Yes, they do, but only if you’re staying in the areas of Funchal or Caniço!
So, if you’re staying on one of these areas, write down on the booking your hotel or accommodation address (in case you’re staying on an Airbnb), and we’ll arrange everything.
Other places outside of these areas have an extra cost so if you want to know more about that, send us an email or whatsapp message, we’re here to help 😉
Yes, you do 🙂 And we’ve got a unique Promo Code just for that!
Just use the NoTransfer code on checkout and get 10% off.
But keep in mind that this promo code is for you to meet us directly at a designated canyon location!
We’ve got different spots to meet up, it all depends on the time of the year that you’re booking, but it’s something like this:
So as soon as you make the booking, you’ll receive an email with all the details (address, GPS, google maps) and meeting time.
Please consider that the booking process has two emails. The first one is automatic from the booking platform, saying your booking is confirmed, and the second one is sent from our team with all the details, and it’s on this one that you get the location, time, duration, what to bring …
Yes, you can, but since the canyon isn’t there … That doesn’t count as a no-transfer (no cheating, please ☺)
Our answer to this is a sounding NO!!!
We’ve got levels for everyone, and we’ll try to explain the best way by summing it up here:
Perfect for those that have never done anything challenging in their life (adventure-wise)!
Those who haven’t done any rappel (abseil) before.
Terrified of heights? Then this is it.
Have a 09H00 to 17H00 life? Then this is definitely for you!
Are you a couch potato? No worries, we’ll peel that off and take you on an adventure.
We should add as well that it’s also family friendly.
Regarding the location where it’s done, it can vary according to the season, so it’ll be in one of these places: Camacha, Ecological Park of Funchal or Ribeiro Frio
Does this description suit your need?
It does!? That’s awesome, then book it here and let’s do this 😎
Never done anything of the sort, but you’re adventurous. Go for it!
If you can hike, you can go canyoning!
Are you moderately fit? This is it!
Want a bit more of a challenge? You’ll get it here!
Do I need a particular set of skills? No, we’ve got you covered. Leave that to Liam Neeson!
For the location, and again it can vary according to the season, so it’s most likely to be in Ribeiro Frio, Curral das Freiras (Nuns Valley), Rabaçal or Seixal
Is this your choice? Then just Book it here and let’s adventure together
Have you done canyoning before?
Have you done at least a 25meters rappel?
Do you have a good mindset for heights?
Have you done some Via Ferratas?
Are you truly adventurous?
If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, you’ve got what it takes!
However, keep in mind that you’ll have an EPIC 60meters waterfall! 😉
These canyons are mostly located in Seixal and Santana
So, you’ve decided that you want to go full EPIC! That’s what we love, Book here and let’s get wet and wild! 🤘
No, not really. What we have is a high season and low season, but we never stop canyoning!
It’s an all-year-round activity.
Of course, in the summertime, the water in the canyons is running lower.
For the canyoning activity, we provide everything that you may need: A wetsuit, Socks, shoes, and all technical gear.
So, you only need to bring a towel and swimwear: Bikini, swimsuit, shorts, even extra underwear works, because the ones you’ll be wearing will get wet. 😉
What you should keep in mind is the time of the year, so if it’s winter and we’ll go up into the mountains, don’t forget to bring a jacket (or layers, better for Madeira weather) to protect you from wind and rain while you don’t get into the wetsuit.
Inside the canyon, we provide a chocolate bar or an energy bar, but if you have special dietary restrictions or needs, you can bring them with you. We’ve got special containers that we can provide for those circumstances.
That also applies if you need to take with you prescription medication, allergies medication and all things related to medical conditions.
But we frequently have coffee shops or restaurants close to the canyons, so most of the time we make a stop for a break.
If you want, you can also pack a picnic to eat out after the canyoning session!
You’ll most likely be famished by the end of it 😉
Well, this is a difficult subject because there’s a huuuge range of particularities, but to make it the shortest possible, it’s a bit like this: If you got diabetes or things like that that aren’t an impediment for you to make exercise and these type of activities you can go for it, if you have some kind of physical condition you may still go!
The thing is, let us know prior to the activity in the comment section of the booking and we can help better. (You can also contact us on WhatsApp +351 913 988 682 or +351 933 668 228)
Please also notify the guide before the canyoning or on the briefing, because if a miscommunication happens, it can generate unpleasantries and complications.
Because as you can see on TripAdvisor, we’re excellent really, we’re the best! But as you can also see, we’re not perfect ☺
So just let us know
And it would be our pleasure to take you.😊
We’ve got everything you need and the skills to match it!😅
So, if you’re up to the challenge, we’re ready for it! 👊
They’re all optional, and we’ve got several ways to overcome them 😉
In some canyons, we don’t even have jumps… So don’t worry about it, that’s our job!
That’s awesome, really! But for that, we must seriously recommend the Coasteering
But we do have a couple of canyons with lots of jumps as well, but they’re a bit more physical!
Not only inside the canyon but also on the approach and exit of the canyon.
Yes, you can, our guides will explain everything you need to know and what to do with them.
Well, that decision is entirely up to you, but if you wear them, you’ll have to be extra careful on the jumps and waterfalls.
Let the guides know that you’re wearing them and go for it 😉
Well, this may vary, but we’ve taken people from 6 years old (depending on the height and weight) to 85 years young.
We’ve got a saying for this: ” Age is a question of mind over matter, if you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter!” 😉
But again, if you want a personal recommendation or advice, get in touch with us on WhatsApp or by email.
Easy, just choose which canyoning level is best for you and click the red button that says BOOK HERE, it’ll take you to a platform that manages everything, just enter your details and credit card information, and that’s it.
If you wish to use other means of payment, we can also accept Revolut, Paypal or MBway, just send us a message 😉
We can’t say anything other than as soon as possible, especially in the summertime, because sometimes we get fully booked a month before.
So, usually, it’s best to book it 15/20 days before the desired date in the summer months (June, July, August, September and sometimes even in October) and the rest of the year at least 5 days before.
But if you get to the website and everything is fully booked, send us an email or WhatsApp message +351 913 988 682 or +351 933 668 228 to see if we had some last-minute cancellations or if we can open a new group.
Ok, let’s talk business 😅
If you get in touch with us at least 24H before the activity, you’ll get a full refund (credit card fees are also refunded).
If it’s after 24h, unfortunately, we don’t do a refund because we’ve already got everything in place (drivers, guides, equipment, insurance, permits… ).
But if it’s a medical emergency or similar situation, let us know, and let’s discuss that.
You will also receive a full refund or credit in case of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
Remember that these refund conditions only apply to direct bookings with us. If you book on other platforms like GetYourGuide or Viator, we’re not responsible for that, and you’ll have to deal directly with them.
Regarding rescheduling, it can also be done if made with 24 Hours” notice (only one reschedule is allowed).
If rescheduled, there’s no place for a refund.
If this wasn’t clear enough, please contact us on WhatsApp 😉
Well for us, either way, is fine, if you come alone, you can be part of a group with other people.
According to the rules, there’s a group size limit, which is 6 participants for each guide.
However usually we only operate in groups of 8/10 people (for two guides), although in the summertime, sometimes we can reach 12 people per group, but that’s not frequently.
No, no! We can make it happen even if you bring 50 friends (but don’t do it, really, don’t 😅 ) we’ve got the guides, gear and techniques to make it happen, and with almost the same duration as if it was a group of 10 😉
Well, that depends, I’ll try to keep it simple, but please keep in mind that it’s approximate times, it isn’t a fixed thing.
Because it always comes down to the canyoning that we’re doing on the day, the rhythm of the group, the water conditions, etc.
So, it’s something like this:
Pickups in Funchal are usually from 09H00 to 09H30, after that, we drive for 30 minutes where we’ll meet with the rest of the group. Usually in a coffee shop.
This will also be the time and place that people that use the NoTransfer promo code have to be (at 10H00).
After this coffee/bathroom stop, we change into the canyoning gear and head for the canyoning.
Inside the canyon, it can take between 2H30 to 3H30 according to the conditions that we’ve mentioned before 😉
After the canyon, another 30 minutes to get into our regular and very comfortable dry clothes. And as soon as we’re ready we proceed to the drop off at your hotel/accommodation.
Well, that’s a bit of a sensitive subject. Our recommendation is that you use the coffee shop stop to release yourself of the “extra weight”.
If “nature calls” inside the canyon, then you’ve got options, three of them in fact.
First one is to hold it in, second is to remove your gear (with the help of a guide) and go for it, third is to do it inside the wetsuit (liquids only, please 😉 ).
But of course, we prefer if you don’t use the third option, because even though we use a lot of cleaning and anti-bacterial/anti-viruses products to clean everything, it’s never pleasant for us 😕
But it is what it is.
Any other questions that you may have?
Well, not really, i think we’ve covered it all, thank you so much for your help, I’ll go straight ahead to the booking section, and i already know the level that I’m choosing ☺
Our pleasure 😉 just wish we finished this conversation not with bathroom talk, but on a better subject, like the incredible Madeira nature.
But since you’ll be booking with us, then we’ll have plenty of time to see and talk about it. 😎
IT’LL BE EPIC! 🤘
