DAY 4 – HIKING WEEK – PICO DO AREEIRO TO PICO RUIVO (HIGHEST PEAKS)

Day 4 of our EPIC Hiking Week, one of the most sought out hikes in Madeira Island passing along and through the highest peaks on the Island, Pico do Areeiro (1818 m), Pico das Torres (1851 m ) and Pico Ruivo (1861) the third highest in Portugal.

This hike has a medium to difficult level and has a length of 7 km. Starting in Pico do Areeiro you’ll find amazing viewpoints for some photo opportunities or to enjoy the incredible landscapes.

On the way to the highest peak on the island, you’ll see the Madeirans’ fantastic work building a path through the peaks using tunnels, stairways, or just simply carving the rocks.

Always present are several species of Fauna and Flora.

Sometimes, even on sunny days, you can see ice in the path, especially on the peaks’ north and dark side.

If you go for a hike here please always check the weather because it does change quite fast.

Good hiking shoes, water, food and a flashlight are advised, also don’t go out of the path and be careful taking pictures.
